I wouldn't want it in the main living areas cause there just isn't that much cushion. My problem is: for the tack strips and stretching the carpet. I only have 1 long wall and 2 partial short walls. The 4th wall will be a seam to another rooms carpet which I plan to heat glue together. How do I stretch the carpet correctly. I just dont have that. Thank you so mush for your help. Is it better to glue carpet down or use padding in a commercial environment? The foundation is all concrete.
Hi Carole, What type of carpeting are you thinking about? Pads extend the life of the carpet. I have an article about Carpet Pad here on my site. Dan, Hi. My thought would be that the installer is probably correct.
Polypropylene is used to make fiber and plastics. It alone could make a squeak, and also you have polypropylene rubbing against a synthetic pad. I would guess these are where your squeak is coming from. It is definitely not recommended that you stack carpet padding, as that can cause flexing and rippling in the carpet which will result in uneven wear.
This will cause your carpet to wear down significantly faster. Additionally, using two layers of carpet padding can void any carpet warranty you may have. Hope that helps! Hi Do you video for clearly displaying the whole process? Can we use 2 pads on top of each other? For more sound proofing?
Hi, there What size staple should be used when using a staple gun to attach the underpad to plywood? I recently had a wool carpet installed over my basement concrete slab.
The slab has an epoxy sealant over it that creates a vapor barrier. If you walk on the epoxy with bare feet or rubber soled shoes, there is good traction, but if you walk on it with socks, it is like an ice skating rink. I was on site when my installer was putting in the carpet and I walked on the pad before the carpet went down. I noticed that the pad was sliding around but I did not say anything at the time. Now that the carpet has been installed, I notice that there is a sliding effect in some areas, especially toward the center.
Because it was stretched and secured by the tack strips, it can only stretch so far, but it definitely moves. I am all but certain that the pad was not glued down at all and I am sure it was not stapled down through the epoxy. Do you need underlay on stair carpet? Can you use grippers felt backed carpet? Similar Asks. Remove one side of the backing and apply strips of double-faced adhesive carpet tape to the floor around the perimeter of the room. Ensure that the edges butt against the outside walls.
Apply additional strips of tape midway across all door thresholds, spanning the width of the opening. Apply additional 4- to 6-foot long strips of tape across the width in the middle section of the floor, spaced evenly at approximately four-foot intervals. Roll out the attached back carpet and position it so that 1 to 3 inches of all the outside edges are folded up against the perimeter walls.
Fold half of the carpet back over itself, and remove the backing from all the exposed strips of tape. Start in the middle of the room and smooth the carpeting down onto the strips of tape across the middle, and then out towards the side walls as you work your way across half the length of the room. Next, make sure the attached pads adhere properly to the tape by walking across the edges along the outside walls and tamping the carpeting down with your feet.
Fold the other half of the carpeting back over itself and repeat the procedure outlined in the previous step. Crease the carpet at a degree angle into the corners between the walls and floors all the way around the perimeter as follows: Force the upward folded edge of carpeting into the bottom corners with the blade of a wide drywall knife.
Once you have a distinctive crease along the length and width of the room, use a sharp utility knife to carefully trim the excess off by cutting through the creases. Cut through the remaining carpeting edge in line with the sides of the door openings.
