I myself do most of my burning at 12x or sometimes 16x at the most. I just unloaded my last plextor 24x burner when I bought a black 52x Lite On.
Or maybe the reduction in image quality comes from the shrinking that Andy did on the images? He mentioned at least twice that he shrank the screenshots. The text on many of the captures does look fuzzy, especially the last one. You said Plextor guarantees it, but testing would be nice…. I had two plextor cdrw drives in the past, both went in the crapper in less than a year.
I guess those 1Gig discs will be even less compatible than any recordable DVD format you can get…. Black too. Type search above and then hit Enter.
In fact, the last time I did one , 24X drives were all the rage. A view of the drives from the front…. Basic settings. Advanced settings.
Are you scared yet? VariRec settings. GigaRec settings. Silent Mode settings. SecuRec settings. Plextor takes media very seriously, putting a table of recommended media brands for various burn speeds into their user manual. Though it would be difficult to ding Plextor for poor performance with media not on their approved list, I decided it might be interesting to test other brands of 52X media to see how the PlexWriter reacted.
LiteOn pressed CD. Plextor pressed CD. Plextor CD-R. Plextor CD-R at 40X. Plextor CD-RW. As in previous tests, I used a new disc that was essentially unscratched, as well as an audio disc that is pretty worn and scratched up. LiteOn new audio disc. Plextor new audio disc. LiteOn scratched audio disc.
Plextor scratched audio disc. CD Speed tests write transfer rates by simulating a write to a blank disc; a blank is placed in the drive, but no data is actually written to it. I ran these write tests for the drives and got back some beautiful CAV curves showing the drives writing at maximum speed with no problems at all.
However, CD Speed also has a test that measures write speed while actually creating a data disc. I decided perhaps these would be more informative than the simulated burns. LiteOn CD-R burn. Plextor CD-R burn. Plextor CD-RW burn. File copy The file copy test measures the time required to copy approximately MB of files from a disc to the hard drive.
The test is performed with the same media used in the preceding CD Speed tests. File copy. Disc recognition time. Exact Audio Copy Exact Audio Copy is a freeware digital audio extraction program with many useful features. One of its best features, however, is its CRC ability. The program actually extracts the audio track twice; the first time, no data is saved, but a CRC is generated from the extracted audio file. The second time, the audio file is extracted to disk, and another CRC is generated from the extracted audio.
DAE speed. DAE accuracy. Record speed. The first of these is SecuRec, which encrypts data before it is written onto the CD. You specify a password before beginning the write process, and once the CD is written, you need that password in order to view the recorded data. If the password is ever lost, so is the data. A screenshot of SecuViewer. Conclusions On a traditional performance scale, the PlexWriter Premium is adequate but frankly nothing special.
Comments closed. Cheers, Aaron. Anonymous 19 years ago Without an assessment of the encryption method and its effectivemess Securec is simply a non-starter, particularly since its software readable on any drive. Anonymous 19 years ago Thank you for tkaing the time to compile such a detailed review.
Anonymous 19 years ago And how long do tapes last? Anonymous 19 years ago Ahoy mate! See, not all of us are living under a rock. CD to CD copies with that rocks. Anonymous 19 years ago How stupid is this GigaRec?! Anonymous 19 years ago I would say: Too little, too late for too much.
Anonymous 19 years ago q[. Anonymous 19 years ago The problem with DVD burners is that there are two competing standards. Anonymous 19 years ago I read somewhere that if you burn at high speeds, the information is not embedded onto the CD as well as if you burned at lower speeds.
