Seiko 5 50th anniversary limited edition
The model was available internationally. This model was the closest to a reissue of the original Astron, but it was not the only model that Seiko released to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the quartz watch.
In the Astron line up there were a couple of other limited editions for the Japanese domestic market that were announced during the Baselworld show towards the start of the year. The first was the SBXC that has a composite case made from 18K pink gold and titanium evoking a modern futuristic design. While there is no clear connection to the design cues of the original Astron, when released in , it was also considered to have futuristic styling.
The gold portion of the case is lightly brushed while the titanium portion has a mirror like polished finish with a black DiaShield coating. The bezel is made from zirconia ceramic and has 50 facets for the fiftieth anniversary. On the case back there is an 18K pink gold medallion and text indication this is an anniversary model. The case is paired with a crocodile strap. The watch has a full titanium case and has both brushed and polished surfaces like the other model. A titanium bracelet with tri-fold clasp is fitted to the watch.
Both models have quartz crystal shaped indices and a dial pattern that depicts resonating quartz crystals. This was a limited edition model of pieces and features the same quartz crystal inspired indices and 50 faceted bezel design.
The watch has a green dial with three rows of Seiko quartz symbols positioned around the outer edge. This model is a solar powered chronograph with a V movement. The green dial features the Seiko quartz logo embossed pattern. In addition to these limited editions there were also a number of special editions that were released for international markets. These models did not have a specific production quantity but were only produced for a limited amount of time.
The face features the Seiko quartz logo in the central circular section. This new limited edition watch brings back to life the form and design of the Quartz Astron in its entirety. Both the elegance of the celebrated timepiece and its characteristically futuristic feel are reflected in the curved silhouette of the case, the wide case lugs and the thin bezel. Like the watch, the case is in 18K yellow gold with each delicately hand carved by the highest skilled craftsmen and women.
The dial has a subtle vertical hairline pattern and the hands and multi-faceted indexes are thin and carry a black line on the surface, just as on the first Quartz Astron. Reduced to its essentials of time adjustment and timekeeping, the watch connects automatically up to twice a day to the GPS network to maintain its precision of one second every , years, and when time zone adjustment is required, with a simple push of a single button, the hands move faster than ever thanks to the system that moves each hand independently.
The watch is offered in a special wooden box with the Quartz Astron 50th Anniversary logo. A tribute to the Quartz Astron This new limited edition watch brings back to life the form and design of the Quartz Astron in its entirety.
