Just curious. If it's a clone in VMWare then it's a full independent copy, so yes. It can be renamed. Gotcha, didn't know if it was similar to VMware Workstation linked clones maybe.

You need not rename the originalname-flat. The vmkfstools command renames both VMDK files and updates the reference within the descriptor.
